True Grits

Description

This route is named in honor of local climber Liz Mahanna (1966-2022) who faced her cancer diagnosis the same way she approached all the challenges in her life—with true grit. (Grits was also the name of Liz's ultimate Frisbee team, as well as one of her favorite foods.) This is now a fully-equipped sport route (bolted with permission from the first ascent party).

The climb ascends a short face, trends slightly left to avoid an awkward dihedral, transitions into a short chimney, and finishes on an exposed white arête. A surprisingly long and varied route. The rock in this section of the cliff tends to be fragile, so be extra cautious and be sure your belayer wears a helmet.

Location

A hundred feet or so to the right of Pontius Pilot.

Protection

10 bolts and a bolted anchor.
