Description
The Slab is the large piece of open rock that is so easy to spot from the fire tower. There are 4 routes on it at the moment, all in the 5.5-5.6 range, 80 to 200 feet, with good protection. See Adirondack Rock for details:
adirondackrock.com/newroute…
The Slab features the same super-coarse, grippy rock as the West Crag.
Location
Two approach options: 1) bushwhack 1/3 mile from the West Crag (compass bearing 250 deg) to the top of the rock. 2) Hike the yellow trail to the second bridge (the 2-plank walkways on the wet sections of trail are NOT bridges), bushwhack up that stream to the saddle between the fire tower summit and the east summit. From the saddle a bearing of 140 degrees leads through open woods to the base. GPS strongly suggested! Coordinates are on the Adirondack Rock new routes page.
Protection
Gear to 3". A 60m rope is sufficient. Bring some cord/webbing for the tree rappels.
